Diminished ovarian reserve (DOR) occurs when you have fewer eggs than expected at your current age. Ovarian reserve naturally declines over time, but sometimes it’s more rapid than anticipated.
Fertility testing often identifies DOR, but while tests can check egg quantity, they don’t directly measure egg quality or predict whether you can become pregnant.
DOR exists on a spectrum. In some cases, ovarian function remains relatively stable despite lower ovarian reserve. In others, DOR may progress toward more significant ovarian dysfunction, including premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) or early menopause.
POI occurs when ovarian function declines before age 40 and may be associated with irregular or absent menstrual cycles, lower estrogen levels, and reduced fertility.
You may benefit from a fertility evaluation if:
Because your ovarian reserve can change over time, early assessment is a good idea. It can provide valuable information and help guide decisions about fertility planning, treatment options, or fertility preservation.
If you’re diagnosed with DOR, Seven Dragons Integrative Medicine focuses on supporting your overall reproductive health while helping you understand your fertility options. Your care may begin with a comprehensive review of hormone testing, menstrual cycle patterns, reproductive history, lifestyle factors, and fertility goals.
Your individualized plan may include:
The team can also discuss fertility treatments such as IUI, IVF, or egg freezing, helping optimize your overall health throughout the process.
For patients with POI or early menopause, care may also include support for hormone health, bone health, cardiovascular wellness, and symptom management.
While DOR can be challenging, understanding your options is the first step toward creating a plan that aligns with your goals. To explore your options, call Seven Dragons Integrative Medicine or use the online booking feature to arrange a consultation today.
